Azmin: GE15 during monsoon because some want low voter turnout

Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Azmin Ali said the 15th general election (GE15) is being held during the monsoon season because certain political parties do not want a high percentage of voter turnout.

This is because those parties would have a higher chance of winning with low voter turnout, he claimed.

“The truth is, there are political parties that do not want to see a high voter turnout because a low percentage of turnout would give those parties a better chance of winning.

“This is the real reason why GE15 is being held during the monsoon season amid a possibility of major floods.

“However, PN is not fazed by the stubbornness and arrogance of Umno. PN will join this election with the determination to continue our agenda of caring for the rakyat and upholding the dignity of this country and its people,” said Azmin in a statement today.

He slammed Umno for failing to consider the public’s situation amid the recovering economy and challenging weather conditions.

He also said the tabling of Budget 2023 was pointless and a waste of manpower and time.

On the other hand, he said PN has always been steadfast, and that full attention should be given to the recovery and revitalisation of the economy.

He said the PN government then implemented economic stimulus packages worth RM530 billion which benefited small business owners, employees, and industries, among others.

Azmin also claimed the 8.9 percent economic growth in the second quarter of 2022 was the result of the new investment policy approved by the PN government in April 2021.

He also brought up the PN government’s other achievements, such as eliminating the debt of Felda settlers and the creation of almost 300,000 jobs.

Not only that, he said, PN has constantly stressed how important it is for the government to focus its efforts on preparing for major floods during the monsoon season this year up to early next year.

“This is PN, which always places the well-being and safety of the rakyat as the most important agenda,” Azmin added.

Yesterday, caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament, paving the way for GE15 to be held.
